Goldfarb School of Nursing began offering Traffic School in 2015. The purpose was to increase awareness and inform the healthcare community about best practices in identification and response to victims of human trafficking. This year is the 4th Annual conference. Our keynote speaker is Annie Lewis-O’Connor, PhD, NP-BC, MPH, FAAN-Senior Nurse Scientist, Founder & Director of the C.A.R.E Clinic @ Brigham and Women’s Hospital- The Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology. Research Associate – Department of Women’s Health Tri-Chair- Partners Trauma-Informed Steering Committee Instructor- Harvard Medical School

Dr. Annie Lewis-O’Connor is a dually Board Certified Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics and Women’s Health. She is the Founder and Director of the C.A.R.R.E Clinic (Caring Approach to Recovery & Empowerment) which provides patient centered and trauma-informed health care to people who have been intentionally harmed by violence. Dr. Lewis-O’Connor is committed to addressing violence from a Research, Policy, Education, and Clinical perspective.

Learner Outcomes

  • Identify potential sex or labor trafficking victims;
  • Implement key aspects of trauma informed care and response to promote resilience and improved outcomes;
  • Employ victim centered approach to care by incorporating survivor perspectives into health care encounters;
  • Describe available resources for health systems to develop appropriate and safe response for victim centered care
